The Ministry of Labor and Social Security is calling for more older people to apply for benefits under the government’s social pension program.

Launched in July of this year, the $ 800 million program provides guaranteed income to vulnerable people aged 75 and over.

Targeted seniors are those who are not currently receiving pensions, disability or other retirement benefits, cash grants from the Health Promotion and Education Program (PATH) or the Health Promotion Program (PATH). aid to the poor, and who do not reside in a government institutional care facility.

Speaking to JIS News, Permanent Secretary of the Department of Labor and Social Security Collette Roberts Risden said that “we are under-registered so we have room for people to participate in the retirement program social “.

“We encourage our seniors who are not on PATH or who do not receive a national insurance pension and who are over 75 years of age to come and apply for this new benefit; this is for you, ”she urged.

“We plan to continue expanding the social pension program. We launched this program over the summer, and it is still fairly new. There is much more space for people to access this program, ”she added.
