The municipal government of EB Magalona in Negros Occidental presented the checks worth 21,700 pesos in indemnity assistance to the eight farmers of the town during rites held at the mayor’s office on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
Help came from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (PCIC) and was granted to farmers in Barangays Consing and Canlusong whose crops and livestock have been damaged by pest infestations and other diseases.
City Agronomist in Charge Efren Garcia Jr. led the delivery of checks to recipients.
Also present were Charlon Melendres, insurance underwriter from CPIC 3rd arrondissement; Bobby Paran, Regional Fisherman Director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Western Visayas; Private Secretary Joel Antonio, Executive Assistant II Debbie Ann Monte and two staff members from the municipal agriculture office.
Garcia said Mayor Marvin Malacon sponsored the 50-peso premium for farmers and fishermen who want to insure their crops, livestock and fishing boats.
He added that EB Magalona is the first and only local government unit in Negros Occidental that sponsors the full amount of accident insurance for its farmers and fishermen. (RP)
